Is there any rule requiring them to identify themselves by name or ID number? Internal airport rules, TSA rule, Federal worker law something?
More than once I have been treated like cr@p by someone in some sort of service and they refused to identify themselves. Once I whipped out the camera at a foreign customs point after being blackmailed and took a picture of the guy after he refused to tell me his name. Yeah maybe not smart of me but I was livid. This metal shutter came down and the guy ran away. One of his colleagues said "can't take pictures in here"...no signs or postings said this so I said "can't blackmail foreign citizens in here" and he didn't respond. Nothing happened after that and I took my merchandise without paying them.
I hate corruption and bullying...in any situation.
