Would you take them to a concert hall? A $100 restaurant? Why then a redeye?
A plane is a necessary evil to those who must travel cross country. A concert hall or a $100 restaurant is an elective - apples to oranges. You also are assuming the traveller is an experienced traveller that might understand the "dynamics" of a red eye or privileged enough to be able to choose a flight based on the "civility" of not disturbing other fliers. Come on!

I would be offended if attending a concert or visiting other than a "family" restaurant if someone did not immediately leave with a crying child. I would be angry in a "family" restaurant or any other environment if a parent did not control a misbehaving child. I would also be angry if a child was misbehaving on a flight at any time of day and the parent did not control the child. A baby on a plane? Come on!

A crying baby that will not shut up on an airplane equals uncivil behaviour? This is not an equation that meets my test of two plus two equal four.
