I am fortunate in that starting trips from down under to third points in South America or Europe via the USA, they will allow without comment totally insane looking deviations off direct routing if I ask, even on dirt cheap $1000 r/t tickets like this one. Never been queried. And they upgrade every sector with a SYS as a bonus.

Just booked this .. they allowed me to go SYD-LAX-SEA-LAX-ORD in a day, on a cheap ticket and never asked why the 2000 odd mile LAX-SEA-LAX in a few hours was needed! I imagine I could go LAX-MIA-DEN-JFK-MIA if connections were good, and I then flew to SCL! There MUST be a MPM on these tickets,(?) but I have never exceeded it, and they always run to over 30,000 flown miles per R/T.
