If you want most of the benefits of SPG Gold status, there's always the option of signing up for an automobile association membership and using that to get "Preferred Plus" status of sorts which provides the majority of the Gold benefits ..... and all this without being a captive to "direct deposit" in airline miles. (Airline miles are generally considered less valuable than SPG points redeemed for hotel stays.)
I've been trying to use my Automobile Association membership to get enrolled as Starwood Preferred Plus member. Enrolled my husband, but it only enrolled him as "Preferred Guest" not Preferred Plus member. Called yesterday for uprade they upgraded him to Preferred Plus, which he should have already been. Any help would be appreciated.
