Yet another problem at BWI - threats by screener, improper handling of baggage
So, I just cleared security at Pier D of BWI. And got inappropriate treatment by both the screener and the supervisor (who did nothing).
My rollaboard was called for a bag check. I had about $1000 worth of small electronic gear in the bag, along with my clothing (the electronics were a GPS, a walkie-talkie, and a calculator.
The screener selected to open my bag had problems figuring out how to open it (it folds over and zippers along the edge). There is a zippered cover over the two sections. I put my toilet bag (sans liquids, of course) outside the zippered cover to keep it from tearing.
The screener removed and swabbed the electronics, and pawed through the bag. He then informed me he was going to run it again, without electronics, which were placed in a separate bin.
OK so far. He tried to put the toiletry bag back into the zippered section, and I asked him not to do so as the fabric would rip. He sternly said "I know what I'm doing". I said that I was asking him again to treat my stuff well, and not to put the toilet bag in there. At which point he said "stop mouthing off to me or this will take a lot longer and I'll make you miss your flight". I looked at him as said, calmly, I'm asking you again to run the toilet bag separately so it doesn't damage my luggage, and to please be careful because I have expensive gear here. At which point he said "what did I tell you about mouthing off?", he folded the bag - without zipping, and with clothes hanging out, and put it and the bin through the X-Ray.
I immediately asked for a supervisor. She stood there silently while I explained what happened. The screener said "now that you've told her that would you like me to tell her the truth". Meanwhile, my case and gear were sitting, unattended, at the end of the X-ray.
She asked where my stuff was, he told her, and he brought it to the table and asked if I wanted to repack it. I asked for his name, and he refused to give it to me. I repacked the bag, went to the supervisor, and she said "I won't give you his name". I copied her name off her tag. I asked who the FSD was for the airport... she said she didn't know, but she gave me a complaint form with no addresses on it. When pushed again, she gave me the name of someone "higher up" that I could talk to.
The name, of course, is not the FSD, at least according to what I can find out at the TSA site.
I'm torqued enough to go to my congressional office when I'm back in DC next week.
