Award Travel Redemption, Confusion, Help?
I'm kinda baffled by this one.
I worked for a long time yesterday attempting to secure an award travel reservation for two (yes I know it's late as I live in Hawaii and trying to get t the mainland at the end of next summer). I was able to find Sky Saver first class seats (I resigned to the fact that Sky saver coach was an impossibilty without waiting till the spring)( I have the reservation on hold) So I am now going to use double miles (75K each), against my will, but hey its first class. Meanwhile, I have more than enough miles in my account to pay for mine, but my daughter only has 34K in her account. I called twice as I was dumbfounded when I was told I would have to go on-line and transfer the miles to her account at $.01 per mile. This comes out to $410. which is somewhat ludicris to me for an award ticket that I only wantred in coach for anyway. Well I asked if the reservations were split or separate would it make a difference and I was told no by both representatives.
Here's the kicker- I redeemed 72,500 miles for a tcket for my wife this past May 18 to travel to the mainland on a skysaver first class ticket that included Northwest and Continental and only paid a $20 booking fee. What gives? I wasn't asked to pay $725 for her ticket. I wasn't even travelling with her. What am I missinig here? Can someone shed some light or insight to the issue. Is there a strategy I am missing and someone could share?
