They should be used to gate changes at DFW since it is more unusual not to have one. The plane was delayed giving them even more time to have the flight catered. And, as already pointed out, it shouldn't be left to the passengers to decide.
I'm getting the last of the details from my Dad to compose my letter and will report back on anything I hear from AA.
Our record for gate changes (so far) is 3.... or actually 4 because at the last minute we were tossed back to the original gate where we started. These were also 2 terminal changes (out of the initial one to another and then back to the first one again) and THANK GOD for the AA updates on the cell phone....... it was actually really comical for us because we were on the tram when we got 2 of the 4 calls. Just kept riding back and forth....
When we finally got on the plane it was 1/2 empty... I'm figuring a lot of people didn't get the updates in time to race through the airport. The plane took off on time too. It's a shame that the only way to get the updates is to request them online. Most people have a cell phone even if they don't have a computer and everyone would benefit from as many people as possible being informed of changes other than just hearing someone shout out the usual garbled info from the gate.
Our motto for DFW has become "if the weather doesn't get you something else will!" .......
