I know what you mean, we have discussed this before in other threads. There is no rational behind it.

The only real impact it has is on AGR redemption. I still can't believe 30k AGR points gets me a bedroom from
SDL-WAS, WAS-CHI, CHI-PDX, PDX-LAX, making it a six day and five night cross country adventure.
