I think it's because the lights are not backlit so as soon as the cabin lights go down you have a 50-50 shot of picking the right button.
So are you saying that WN pax have poor night vision, because that doesn't explain why it happens with less frequency when the lights go down on other airlines?
Personally, I think Southwest fliers are shorter than most...
