Well, I think it is a kind of extraordinary when suddenly during the night you realise that your whole Q400 fleet is at the moment unsafe to fly. They cannot say that they expected that to happen. So in that case it is fair to claim this extraordinary.
But of course, with public relations - now they are in the situation that some newspapers are making this quite public and it looks really bad that they had two accidents in the same same week so some compensation would maybe turn this to look less bad. In the end, it is now SAS's reputation in stake. You don't have to always follow the strictest rule - of course being generous in this situation and this amount of cancellations would just cost quite much.
I guess sometimes it is difficult to be in the airline business.
