thanks for the added date, helped to know that along with the other crAApy delays due to wx, your Father's was one as well, either by MX, or WX.
Anyway, even though I'm not trying to defend, but could it have been possible that, as often times it does happen in OSO situations, the departing flight had a gate change?
I know that often times when severe OSO situations happen in ORD, catering has an extremely hard time catching up to find the right planes for the right catering....and they cannot seem to get coordinated with AA. (of course ORD is not the only place this happens, but since I know more about ORD than DFW and how often planes change gates without notice....)
