Weather in Dallas is a mess (as usual this year). AA1222 (TUS-DFW) is late getting in but he makes his connection (thankfully) AA1882 (DFW-BOS) but they delay about an hour at the gate after boarding for a supposed mechanical... then several more people board at once (all in F) and suddenly the malfunction is miraculously fixed... then the captain tells them that they haven't had catering service yet and takes a vote as to a "much longer" delay to wait for catering or just go. So of course the vote is go... and they push back and wait almost another hour before they finally leave.

No food in F not even peanuts. No bevs beyond coffee, tea and tapwater. Nothing.

Do you mean to tell me the whole time they were sitting on the gate waiting for their VIP's (oh I mean mechanical issue) they couldn't put SOMETHING on the plane to eat? My Dad was cool about it - at 6'4" and 80 yrs old he was just glad to have the legroom (3A) but still..... I'm pretty unhappy that what was supposed to be a treat was a real drag. (granted would have been worse if he was stuck in middleseat rear... but still!)

Is it worth writing a letter to AA? Or is this SOP when they can blame it all on the weather?

Yes, you should write a letter. You should ask for the $100 and miles back. There is no reason why that flight should not have been catered.
