Train ride always trumps a stau. There are approx. hourly trains from K-town to FRA. That said, in that area, it is unlikely that you would see a stau before maybe Mainz, but more likely if you hit one it would be close to the airport. You will be driving through the vineyards (or driving past very fast on the autobahn). But, trains would be more reliable.
