you could argue that based on the fare calculation that the origin is YYZ and the destination is SYD if... your fare calc reads YTO AC X/LHR AC X/YTO AC SYD. Personally since there is no YYZ-SYD flight I assume your fare calc actually reads YTO AC X/LHR AC X/YTO AC X/YVR AC SYD. If so then you have an argument for 1 cert in each direction. Good Luck!
There actually is a flight YYZ-SYD flight, it is flight AC033. AC033 is sold as BOTH YVR-SYD nonstop and YYZ-SYD with 1 stop in YVR. The date I could bring it up on was Jan 6th, 2008 that's when I would be flying it.
On AC.com it shows as
Base Fare (Q0MSLWL,AKSOPXGB,LKSOPXGB,K0MSLXGT)
YYZ-LHR LHR-SYD SYD-LHR LHR-YYZ
I know the last one is in K, I would need to call in to book it in an upgradeable fare.
