I think the car companies should charge more for smoking cars. It reduces the value of the car to have burns in the seats/etc.. plus the smell of the smoke does not fully come out of the car which reduces resale value. More or less the non-smoking consumers subsidize the "damage" that the smokers do to the cars. I personally think that if you had cars that allowed smoking that they should cost more to rent. Why? As I said before, I don't pay any extra for a smoking hotel room. The smell doesn't come out of there either, but after one cigarette, I don't notice. And because its a smoking room and you're not in it, you don't notice either. They don't do anything special to those rooms - at least not at the ICH hotels I've been at. The penalty? Sure, I'll go along with that...but I'll risk it anyways since I always have the windows down.
I'm not a heavy smoker, but I'll fight to my shortened-life death to defend the right to do it.
