Boy, I disagree with this. Filters and lens hoods are not mutually exclusive. My UV or 1A filters have saved the front lens element from damage more than once over the years. I'd rather replace a $20.00 filter than a $500.00 lens. The front glass of my lenses are NEVER exposed to the vagaries of nature and rambunctious kids.
