A new UA headquarters at Chicago's ORD could be 3x larger than first proposed and employ as many as 2,500 people, according to Crain's Chicago Business.
The exclusive report said UAL is seeking 50 additional acres on the airport's former military site to build its new headquarters.
The company already has an agreement with the city to develop up to 80 acres at the site for a 300,000 sq. ft. building. The company would use the additional land to build a more expansive headquarters, as much as 900,000 square feet, enabling United to relocate 800 top level officials from its current headquarters in Elk Grove Township and another 1,600 employees based in the area, Crain's said.
Even more jobs could be added at the expanded headquarters if UA wins regulatory approval of its proposed with US. United's plans depend on Chicago allowing it to lease the additional property for about USD$1 million per year.
