Thanks all -

I guess my question really is:

With an endless amount of time available to transfer at LHR is it highly advisable to collect luggage at arrival from LAX in T1 and take it myself to T4 for fast-bag drop ahead of a GVA departure ... ?

Am I right to understand the weakest link in the LHR luggage system is indeed the connection between the two terminals T1 and T4 and therefore should at all cost be avoided ... ?

If so, what is a reasonable time allowance for getting from arr in T1 to dept in T4 using HEX ... ? (I can change my EU dept to give me over 4hrs instead of 2hrs)
