Austria doies not require any transit visas. This makes conecting in VIE easier than in otheer countries but yo also can encounter inconveniences in case irreg. ops.

Again you are right but not to send a nice letter with a 100 or 200 euro voucher towards a ticket in AUA is very little for the airline, and probably they would not loose his business.
