Compensation for bad weather delays is at the discretion of the airline. be happy if you get it, but don't blame the airline if they are not offering it...... At the end of the day it is anyhoww a mute point. Since VIE has no transit hotel (like SIN) and since the OP could not pass imigration, he could not sleep in a hotel in the first place.

Austria doies not require any transit visas. This makes conecting in VIE easier than in otheer countries but yo also can encounter inconveniences in case irreg. ops.
