Checking various websites I have found one way fares for around $5000 and round trip fares for around $500. What is going on here? I'd prefer a one-way flight for under $500.
Can you guys help me to find a reasonable place to look for fares?
Hey CrazyInteg,
as DukieDrew wrote you will mostly find one-way tickets to be very expensive, but things are starting to loosen up a bit. Not knowing when you're planning on travelling or what your preferred destination in the US is, I randomly checked for 10/25 and found the following itinerary:
10/25/07 FRA EWR 1120 1405 on CO51
10/25/07 EWR ORD 1630 1821 on CO1185
price is around 470$.
There are other offers (with AF for example) which are not quite as cheap (~750$).
But it would probably become much cheaper for you if you did an 'open-jaw', i. e. flew from ORD to one city (TXL) and back there from another (FRA) on ONE ticket. Again, not knowing your exact itinerary I checked to give you an example:
10/11/07 ORD JFK 1439 1815 on DL5517
10/11/07 JFK TXL 1920 1000 on DL78
10/25/07 FRA JFK 1205 1450 on DL107
10/25/07 JFK ORD 1630 1836 on DL5469
price: around 790$, so much cheaper than actually buying two one-way tickets! There are plenty of offers for this kind of itinerary, so I guess you don't really have to worry. Just talk to a TA if you can't find fares like that on the internet or ask again for websites.
Have fun in Europe!
