It's a no brainer which choice works best for me.
This will be my first chance to use a discount code, so I'm interested to see how easy it is to use, when it expires, what restrictions are in place, etc. However, I'm struggling to understand why any FF'er would take the miles over the discount.
Unless it expires very quickly or is overly restrictive, the dollar value is much greater as you point out. Even at a generous 2 cents a mile it's only worth $10, meaning any planned ticket purchase over $100 gives the edge to the discount.

I tend to fly MIA-IAD and tickets are relatively inexpensive, so I took the 500 miles. I believe each person's situation is different.
I travel between MIA and Washington each week. If you have found round trips for under $100, please let me know how you did it. I would even tolerate Dulles for that price!
