I can't speak to a Plat package, but I can tell you the Gold package is nothing more than a booklet with some rules/benefits and the Gold elite card glued to the inside.
Personally, I wouldn't hassle SPG for the Gold pack. I would just wait until you reach Plat and then see what you receive.
