For some of us, the Rescue Diver mantra would be "Stop, Breathe, Think, Read FlyerTalk, and Act." Well, before flying extensively, anyway. Be sure to check the Wiki, check the Unofficial Users' Guide sticky, add fusion then bla bla bla. (Links in the "Welcome" at the page header - except to fusion and bla bla bla.)
Oh, don't forget to breathe normally, especially while ascending.

Stupid joke, but the point is that you can't build off concepts like "500 mile upgrades" if you don't know what they are or why they're applicable (why 500 miles? How do you figure out a route length? What's the difference between an "electronic" upgrade and a regular upgrade? etc.)
Anyway, I'll agree Flyertalk is super duper helpful, and I plan to hang out around here lots more going forward. Thanks much to everyone who's bothered to help me get this sorted so far.
