I just called Marriott since I had a reservation booked at the Renaissance in Dec/Jan. The reservations desk said the property was available for the dates I had my reservation and that they had no information regarding the property leaving Marriott.
They then transferred me to customer service for Renaissance properties and they confirmed that it would no longer be a Marriott property and that reservations should have known....... When I asked him what the property would become he said hold for a couple of minutes. When he came back he said that the hotel was actually going to open up again as a Renaissance and continue to be operated by Marriott International. He said the hotel would be flagged if it was not going to be part of the network. He seemed to think it was strange, but said the hotel is going to open on October 31st.
I made a backup reservation at the Marriott before I called, as well as the Hilton. I'm not sure which one I'll go with now, although I liked the location of the Marriott/Renaissance properties. I'll just keep watching and see what's going on a couple of weeks before my stay. But based on the information from Marriott it will continue to be part of their network after they reopen which is good news - I prefer this hotel over the Marriott - and it should be even better after the renovation!
