I would say that using miles for hotel stays would get you far less bang-for-your-buck than flights, especially if you can use the 50% off b/d award for a C or F long-haul flight. For short or Y flights, award tickets are not such a great deal. But hotels in Thailand are cheap when compared to elsewhere in the world, so I'd personally never spend miles on a hotel stay in Thailand.
