You are right... I can pay the difference and then upgrade with miles.... BUT ... I have a problem with that.

The point of FF miles is to reward the customers for flying your airline. So if you find a cheap ticket, you should be able to use that reward to upgrade your ticket.

In this case, they wanted over 250.00 per ticket (500.00 total... the tickets only cost 581.00 each... so almost 50% more) to have the "honor" to be able to use 40000 miles to upgrade...80000 If I want first class... Doesn't sound like a good deal to me. I've stuck with UAL through their tough times here... I was not the pax yelling at the gate agent when my flight was canceled/delayed... I've been a good customer... and when it comes time to "cash in" on a little perk that I have worked for....they say I can't with that particular fare...... that was not in the rules that I read very carefully..... Well to tell you the truth.. I feel "betrayed"... Sounds corny I know... but it's true.

I have 123000 miles in my account that took FOREVER to accumulate via Shuttle flights mostly at 337 miles each/ 441 after making premier ... Do the math... it's ALOT of flying..... NEVER ONCE have I tried to use miles for anything.. UNTIL now... and DENIED!

I tell you… with all the delays… cancellations… and other United problems… I have NEVER wanted to switch…. Until now…
