If a dealer would not let you charge it on the "card" so to speak, do you get MR points using convenience checks? I think some banks won't let you do that, but I'm not sure on AMEX. If they did, you could use a convenience check, OR write a check to cash (take a cash advance from your card) and get a certified check. I think credit card companies exempt rewards from using the checks or cash advances though....that'd be a good way to get around those situations if you could. Though the Platinum card is a charge card, they have the extended payment option on things. I have never needed those checks, so I don't even know if you can get them for their charge cards. I know you can for their credit cards.
One cannot accrue MR points through the use of cash advances, convenience checks, or balance transfers (per Amex from a while back). My Chase and B of A CC are the same way.
