If you are looking for really close - Datchet (a kind of suburb of Windsor) is quite nice and I have taken people there......

There is the Manor hotel there - I have had the food ^but never stayed....(just checked - terrible reviews on trip advisor so may be not !)

Maybe Datchet is a good village 2-3 hour lunch stop over from Heathrow rather than o/n

As I say - very close to Heathrow - gives you more drinking time in the pub but there is the aircraft noise to consider.......
