True story. About 6 years ago CO pulled their Sydney-USA route with very little notice. My wife and I had booked and paid for a 30,000 mile type R/T across Guam + Micronesia to USA to South America for dates AFTER the route stopped. CO refunded all ticket monies cheerfully of course.

We were top tier flyers with CO, and got double miles for flights. NW quickly poached the OZ high tiers ("inside job"!) and comped them same level with NW/KLM. We took the trip with them on a RTW C ticket, and got the 60,000 or whatever miles + C bonus, and basically forgot about it.

Spoke to CO Gold Desk about it in passing, and they said "what a shame we pulled the route - it was not your fault, let me see what I can do for loyal fliers like you on an involuntary cessation like this". (Still were top tier CO Elite on paper at that time, which helped I guess.)

I swear this is true - CO posted both accounts with about 80,000 miles just as if we had flown CO in Business First! A great gesture, and one they had no real reason to honour - or indeed OFFER!

But the moral of the story is ..... it never hurts to ASK! I only mentioned it in passing to the Gold Desk when speaking about some flghts to Caribbean and the agent picked it up and ran with it. Never in a million years did I imagine you could get 80,000 points each, for flights we never flew!
