I was asleep until about 50 minutes before landing, but at that point there was no evidence in the cabin that fruit plates (or even drinks) had been served to anyone. For example, no one was drinking coffee. It is entirely possible that the F/As completed the second service really early and really quickly and I completely slept through it, but if that was the case, I'd think it would be common courtesy for the F/As to offer me something to drink.

I know that after takeoff, the purser mis-stated the time in ORD as one hour earlier than it actually was, so it's entirely possible he got times mixed up and decided to nix the second service as a result. But this would be VERY surprising because you'd think in the crew complement on a 777 (who obviously work Hawaii trips regularly), at least one F/A would know the destination time.

I'm going to write a letter to UA to get their take on the issue. I'll exclude other issues I had with this flight, but I'm listing them for your amusement -

1) No wine refills were proactively offered once the crew began serving main courses. Instead, main courses were served to everyone, and then it was time to clear trays from the front of the cabin. I purposely ate slowly to get a refill of my wine, but instead of a refill of my wine, the F/A offered to clear my half eaten tray. I had to EXPLICITLY request a refill.

2) Guava juice wasn't offered on the pre departure beverage tray, as is customary on flights from Hawaii. Instead, I observed a Guava juice party going on in the galley. Geez if UA caters two cartons of Guava juice, I didn't know that one of them was allocated to the F/As.

3) Mystery fish was one of the entree choices. The purser told me it was "sort of like Halibut" and he told others it was Halibut. It clearly wasn't Halibut, and I'm one of those people who likes to have SOME clue what I'm eating.

Anyway, I learned my lesson. I will no longer give F/As the benefit of the doubt and will explictly walk up to the galley to request beverages whenever I'm thirsty, even if I think a service is about to begin.

And for those of you who think I'm whining, I haven't written a complaint letter to UA for over 5 years, and gave the purser on my ORD-OGG flight a GTEM for exceptional service.
