For the ERj-170's operated by Republic... the extra life vests for the kiddies and the extra oxygen masks are stowed in the even-numbered rows on the right side of the plane. Not sure if that is new, or they are just telling more people about it, but either way, that's where they are. It's not possible to avoid every little kid, I know, but you can certainly cut the odds of being seated in front of a lap-kid (potential screamer and seat-kicker) by choosing a seat on the left side of the plane.
