Right you are..............if it sounds too good to be true, then it must be too good to be true. I too looked it up and couldn't find anything on flying on SWA but crediting it to your ATA account. I was assuming it was reciprical since I know I've bought on ata.com and I've credited it to SWA. I guess not though. Plus as you mention you get double credit for booking on ata.com so if you book SWA flights on southwest.com then it will take twice as long (and not make it worthwhile) as well as the fact that you will lose the ability to take advantage of SWA's lenient cancellation policy if needed. Oh well, it was a good thought......................
