OT: Air-traffic brass a few runways short in landing public support for YVR plans

When a Boeing 747 or an Airbus A-340 makes its final approach to Vancouver International Airport, the noise is enough to shake shingles or rattle windows in homes on the flight path.

Richmond residents have tolerated this nuisance for years as an accepted burden of sharing space with YVR. And certainly anyone buying a home in Richmond should know they'll be living up-close and personal with a major airport.

However, having screaming jet engines just above your rooftop is a new experience for many people in south Surrey, White Rock and parts of Delta.

Unlike their Richmond neighbours, these people bought their homes over the years with confidence that low-flying jumbo jets would not be a problem.

And that's the way it was until last May when NAV Canada, the private company responsible for air-traffic control across Canada, changed the approaching flight paths to YVR.
