In simple terms, a flight that operated by an airline based in Country A that flies to Country B and then on to Country C, where passengers can buy tickets to fly from Country B to Country C (and from Country C to Country B).

A prime example is the BA flight LHR-SIN-SYD where passengers can buy tickets and travel SIN-SYD.
