Taking partner on Christmas vacation (both mid 30s), leaving YVR on December 25 for 7-10 days. But where should we go? I realize this is an overly broad and extremely vague question and each city I am sure would be lovely and interesting. We did London last year during this time and had a wonderful time. I have been to AMS and VIE solo in the past few years and enjoyed the culture (museums) and city atmosphere. My partner's only visit to Europe was London (last year), which she enjoyed...although she did wish it was a bit warmer. I am not sure how much warmer Paris/Amsterdam/Vienna will be at these time..any clues?

We enjoy museum and restaurant hoping and shopping (her mostly). Also enjoy theatre/opera. We would also be interested in taking a train for a few days to see the countryside and other small towns.

Unfortunately, price can be a factor...but not overly so. (I am just not interested in spending $450 night as we did last year in London). Would like to stay in moderate to nice accomodations close to attractions. For instance, I would gladly spend a few $100 more on airfare to go further east than get a decent price to CDG and then have the airfare "saving" eaten up by Paris hotel rates in 1 night.

We could also consider other locations....BUD....MAD...FRA...?
