I do remember the FA announcing that the pilots of the connecting aircraft have been advised of the delayed connecting passengers, and I also seem to remember him saying that the decision to wait was at the discretion of the individual pilot and that there would be no gaurantee that the aircraft would wait.
I don't recall the exact words, and no I didn't expect a guarantee for holding any flights, I think it was more like the "other pilots have been advised and requested to hold flights" no further clarifications. The issue was that the gate agents didn't seem to know a thing about it.
