He was on the last flight of the night to YVR - how many Asia flights depart after 11 pm when his flight would arrive? For that matter, how many flights anywhere other than redeyes to the East depart after 11 pm from YVR?
I am always appreciative of a plane waiting if it's the last flight of the night - even if I'm not the one rushing to make the plane. Arriving 30 minutes late doesn't bother me if it's arriving that late at night vs. poor schmucks like the OP who are stuck when it's a total cock-up on the part of the airline that made them late?
