Well I guessed we understood checked baggage was was capped at 20 kilos. However having seen what some Americans check on as regular baggage, yes well worth making the point, as I have a feeling about 30 kilos is possible from the USA each piece. Airlines domestically are treated more like U-Haul than people movers.

(And I have seen folks heave on just as much INSIDE the cabins within the USA, but that's for other threads.)

The OP was bemoaning his TWO pieces were not permitted intra Europe in coach, (if he has no status), hence my (and others) points reminding him/her of the decades old ONE piece rule - no matter what your passport says on the outside.
