Final word to Counsellor: All I was trying to say was that what got people's backs up was the (unintended) implication of "I think I deserve special privileges because of my citizenship". And that would have got people's backs up regardless of what that citizenship was. When I said "best to be avoided" I was not specifically referring to US citizenship but to anything that would imply that a person's citizenship somehow makes them stand apart. On a continent where people freely move from one country to another without changing their citizenship the concept of citizenship doesn't really mean much any more.

As regards baggage restrictions in Europe - with the notable exception of BA most legacy carriers have a 20 kg limit with no restriction on the number of items (hence WEIGHT concept!!). So - JOUY31 is correct here.
