In my experience this type of situation is entirely normal for AC. The instant anything goes wrong the whole system immediately degenerates into complete chaos, and not one person there gives a rat's behind about the pax.

I wouldn't count on any compensation. In all the times I've been through this type of thing I've never received a thing.
