Well, I just wanted to post back and confirm that this was, in fact, a very risky way to set up a flight to Beijing. I had all of about 20 minutes to get from the arrival gate to the departure gate - if there had been any delay on the Boston side, I would have missed the flight and been seriously delayed. In my case, everything worked out fine, but it could easily have been otherwise. Thanks again for everyone who gave advice.
