IC De La Ville Roma

Were you happy with the hotel?
Yes, very much so.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a deluxe double, and was upgraded to a grand deluxe with balcony; I did have to ask though.

How are the rooms?
Small but perfectly formed. Rome is not a place where you'd spend a long time in the room, and land is certainly at a premium hence the small rooms for the price.

How is the Exec. lounge?
Not sure if there was one or not.

What was good and what was bad?
Check-in was an absolute nightmare, although it's not the hotel's fault that it was so busy, so nothing to really complain about.

I used the phone whilst there as my mobile was charging, and they had charged me over 4 EUR per minute, instead of 2, but I do believe it to be a genuine error, and it was changed with an apology.

The roof terrace is utterly amazing, and the view is to die for. I'd recommend going at night and spending some of your hard earned money on their wonderful selection of drinks (19 EUR is quite expensive, but not prohibitively so) - Antonio, the main barman, is a 'crazy' old guy who makes the experience all the more pleasurable, try to take some time out to talk to him.

The hotel is at the top of the Spanish Steps (Piazza di Spagna), and if you are travelling with someone who isn't so good on their feet, it might not be such a good choice. The other problem with it's location is that everytime you go back to the hotel, you must deal with the dredded sellers/forcers of roses and string bracelets; a stern no and a slightly cross look usually gets them to prey on someone else.

I got the hotel to book the car transfer, and it was 55 EUR for a white knuckle ride in a Chrysler 300, driven by a very respectable man in a nice suit - for reference, a normal taxi is 40-50 EUR.

I was given some chocolates and fruit as my welcome gift, and for those of you who are RA (not for me, yet!), the minibar has a good selection of spirits, snacks and sodas.

Value for money? Would you return?
Paid 275 EUR per night, and worth every penny. I will be staying there three times a year from now on (hopefully!).
