Well, as far as I understand it, the Online Reservation Guarantee would say that if your reservation cannot be honored (in this case you were guaranteed check-in at 2 PM, but didn't get a room when arriving at 2:30), they will pay for your first night. Worked wonders in Shanghai twice already. Within seconds I had the keys to a suite...
