Since both hotels are basically joined by the pool it is just a matter of taste. The Paris is completely over the top, especially the lobby. The Hermitage is a bit more understated but still grand and beautiful. I haven't stayed at the Hermitage since the face-lift, so my info it is a bit dated. The room I had was classically french and large but not really updated. My room ( I think it was on the 7th floor) at the Hotel de Paris was a suite with big windows overlooking the bay. It had a beautiful marble and glass bathroom, separate shower, bath, toilet, bidet and Hermes products. We had bedside controls for the window shades, sound system, lights etc.

The solarium and the large indoor pool are nice. The Hermitage also has a outdoor pool. I had a great massage at the spa. I had developed horrible knot in my neck and shoulder from driving a stick shift and the crazy Italian drivers.

The only complaint about either place is that you really don't get what you pay for. Monaco is beautiful but it is not a place for great service. For the price you would like some Asian-style service but unfortunately it doesn't even come close. You really can't go wrong with either hotel but just don't expect great service and you should have a grand ol time.

I've been to Monte Carlo many times. There are so many beautiful views, buildings and people. It's just not the warmest, friendliest place on earth. I think it was Maugham that said M.C. "is a sunny place for shady people." That being said I've always had a managed to have fun despite the $40 cocktails and the $900 restaurant tabs.

If you're flying into Nice I would suggest taking the helicopter one way and driving back. That way you can see the beautiful Cote d' Azur from both perspectives.

Also Eze is a nice old hill town escape from the glitz of Monaco. Also in Eze
the restaurant at the Chateau de la Chevre d'Or is one of the loveliest places to take in the views in all of the south of France.

have fun
