Another Targeted Marketing Offer

A friend of mine (a Premier level member of Mileage Plus) just received this letter from Mileage Plus awarding double miles on their next International round trip.

I know I'm not going to be flying on a Full Fare ticket during this period, but as usual I called Mileage Plus to see if I could be made a target for this same promo and was politely told no.

I've always said I hate this practice, even though I know United is perfectly within their rights to do things this way. But to a 1K and one of their best customers it always seems like these target bonuses are rewards to those flyers who don't fly United that much! While us 1K's hardly ever get special offers like this.

I know they don't look at this as a reward to the infrequent flyer, but as an incentive to fly United more. But it still makes me feel slighted and even worse, excluded. Remember the doctor's oath? "First, do no harm."

I think United should have a policy that anyone who finds out and calls about one of these targeted offers should be allowed to be included in the promotion. Period.
