FWIW I would guess items like "the best mascara for travel; the tiniest eyelash curlers for packing ease; eyelash extensions, which are a product that allow you to no longer have to travel with mascara; travel vases; travel shoes that are unique to women; and so many more" would probably still get posted in the women's forum, and that items (luggage, headphones, wallets, which are not gender specific for the most part) such as those posted in the thread examples wharvey listed above are more what would appear in the new or sub-forum if it's decided to create one.
I have a tendency to take things at face value, and without actually speaking for him, think wharvey's motivation was simply what he stated in the OP.
"I have noticed an increase in the number of travel product related questions over the past months on Flyertalk. From Travel Luggage, wallets, clothing, headphones, travel agencies and the like. I would like to recommend that the Talkboard considering adding a Travel Products and Services Forum under the Travel & Dining area."
