Connecting from a domestic AirNZ flight to an international AirNZ on a separate itin
Never having flown Air New Zealand before, Can I purchase a SmartSaver fare and have my bags interlined correctly? I have an upcoming flight CHC-BNE, Dept CHC @ 3:40pm.

I asked Air New Zealand this question, and they seemed to suggest that luggage may need to be collected at CHC and checked in again. I didn't ask whether I could get my CHC-BNE boarding pass at another airport.

Is really the case for Air New Zealand? If so, how late can I arrive into CHC and still have enough time to collect my bags and recheckin for the CHC-BNE flight? Otherwise, is 80 min layover enough time for an Air New Zealand Domestic - International connection at CHC?
