The Platinum card earns 5 or 3 points. The PPE earns 2 or 1 which becomes 4 or 2 when matched by flight points. I would use PPE only to purchase airline tickets and where American Express is not accepted. Let the flight points accumulate until you have maxed out Platinum for the year or reached the end of the 24 month 5/3 period.
