China Airlines 737-800 Evacuation - Thoughts?

They had a news conference in TPE today. The Captain and co-pilot (only 26 years old) hugged. The captain was choked up when he thanked the cabin crew and passengers for the successful evacuation. He said if anyone hesitated, the outcome would have been much different.

He said they waited until he saw the purser on the ground, then he asked the copilot to leave. He was going to jump out of the left window but the fire/smoke was so bad, he jumped out of the right window. There are videos around the net that showed the plane blowing up as he climbed out the window.

On the subject of evacuation...I commented in this board about how airlines put oversized passengers on window exit seats. I had another severe case of this last Friday (UA).

I was on the 2nd window exit row of the A320. The row in front of me had 2 huge people on the window and middle. My row had 2 people who probably had never flown on the A320 (they were wondering where the video screen was) and said "Yes" to the "Willing and Able" question without looking at the safety card. So, basically, I knew I could not count on 2 out of 4 overwings open if we had to evacuate

There 2 in the row in front of me moved so slowly, a huge line was forming behind them when we deplaned. I actually wrote to the FAA this weekend about this problem on Saturday. Then this happened.

I think they should play the CI evacuation and explosion video on the safety demos of every flight so people take this kind of thing seriously.
